About Me

Hello fellow artists/enthusiasts! My name is Mekinna Knight and I am a Los Angeles-based artist focusing on dance, choreography, cinematography, writing/directing, and acting. Originally from Dallas, TX, I attended Booker T. Washington HS for the Visual and Performing Arts where I studied different Modern and Ballet techniques, Partnering, Contemporary, Street Styles, Jazz, African Diaspora, B-Girl, and Dance on Film. My professional career consists of working with artists including Hannah Gallagher, Ryan Green, Tessandra Chavez, Aidan Carberry, Alexa Anderson, and many other lovely humans. I am also very passionate about thrifting and clothes and styling, and I love pickles.

As an artist, I am interested in the human condition and turning our insides out in the most reflective way possible. I want people to live in the moment and see that the more we try to control a certain outcome, the less and longer it takes to get to the outcome we need. I want to inspire people to make art, consume art, and have opinions. I aspire to encourage people to fall in love, feel sadness, and cultivate joy.

All of the compositions presented on this site serve as a portfolio of directing, cinematography, and choreography work I have done or played an important role in. It reflects what I want to create as an artist, and hopefully also serves as inspiration to work in collaboration, have productive conversations, or promote creation on your own. These works also serve as a representation of how far I have come, and how far I have to grow as an artist. A culmination of trying, failing, and learning how to get the most from the human experience in the process.
